Suffolk Latch Fitting Instructions

  1. Place thumb latch on gate and adjust to height where it is suitable to operate when opening gate (50 inches height recommended from floor level).
  2. Measure to centre of style and mark a vertical line. Mark a horizontal line where thumb part of latch is to rest and a second horizontal line 40mm up from the first line. Cut a 40 x 12mm slot between both horizontal lines with vertical line at centre.
  3. Pass lever from thumb latch through slot. Make sure lever can be fully raised and lowered before marking out holes for style.
  4. Remove style with lever and drill pilot holes for screws into gate. Replace style and fix to gate using screws provided.
  5. Position latch bar above lever on reverse side of gate. Make sure it is aligned with thumb latch and that latch bar overlaps gate frame by 10mm. Mark out holes for latch bar on door.
  6. Remove latch bar and drill pilot holes for screws into gate. Replace latch bar and fix to gate using screws provided.
  7. Position staple on frame allowing latch bar to rest horizontal on it. Mark out holes and staple position on frame.
  8. Remove staple and drill pilot holes for screws into frame. Replace staple and fix to frame using screws provided.
  9. With latch bar now resting horizontal on staple, position keep over latch bar on gate. Move keep up until inside is almost touching bottom of latch bar. Mark out holes for keep on gate.
  10. Remove keep and drill pilot holes for screws into gate. Replace keep and fix to gate using screws provided.
