A. PERRY MAKES PLEDGE TO A GREEN FUTURE WITH NEW ECO INITIATIVE

Pioneering hardware supplier, A. Perry, has consolidated its commitment to the environment with the launch of its brand new eco initiative.

Putting its environmental ethos to the forefront, A. Perry are launching a series of pledges that showcase its stringent CSR credentials.

With its mission statement to being environmentally responsible, Perry’s are continuously looking at ways to minimise the impact of its activities on the environment, as well as being committed to socially responsible sourcing, manufacturing and distribution methods.

The new website, www.perrytrade.co.uk/eco-initiatve has been unveiled on what is Global Recycling Day (18th March) and which looks at the four R’s in the new Perry pledge – reduce, reuse, recycle and replace.

Taking each commitment individually, the eco initiative pledge focuses on:

Reduce - Reducing the amount of waste produced, such as packing materials used for transportation,  the introduction of a paperless warehouse department with all pick/dispatch processed through digital scanners and extends right through to energy usage with improvements made to insulation to increase heat retention. Installing a series of electric car points to encourage staff to adopt electric cars and reduce their own carbon footprint. Using virtual meetings to reduce the amount of physical customer visits.

Reuse - Reusing any materials possible, A. Perry has removed all single use plastic bottles in the company and have provided all staff with aluminium sustainable, re-usable water bottles.

Recycle - Recycling all waste materials by partnering with a Recycling Management company who are committed to minimising the impacts of waste onto the environment. Everything that can’t be traditionally recycled is compacted and used to generate power.  All pallets that aren’t reused are broken down and now used as biomass to provide heating throughout our warehouse.

Replace - Replacing any non-environmentally friendly materials with eco-friendly alternatives, such as plastic tapes with paper, none-recyclable plastics with easily recyclable alternatives.
Developing new products that are more environmentally friendly to replace non-sustainable products on the market. Replacing internal energy solutions with more environmentally friendly alternatives

A key goal for 2022 for the family run firm also transcends to the use of plastic in the packaging of their products and after nearly 2 year’s in the making, the business is now confident that with the changes introduced, they can meet the objectives they set themselves.  This will see a reduction on overall plastic output for all retail packaged products by a minimum of 30%.  In addition, A. Perry will have developed alternative options for 100% of all non-recyclable plastic with fully recyclable alternatives.

Commenting on this bold move for A. Perry, Steve Perry, Marketing Director said: Coming from an industry which is so heavily reliant on plastics within its packaging, due to the nature of the products being heavy duty hardware items with multi-components that need to be hung and displayed in store, a plastic bag is and has always been the option. However we have been able to prove this doesn’t need to be the case and although it will take time for us to adopt a fully plastic free retail solution for many items, we now know it is achievable.”

“The eco-initiative has been on our agenda for quite some time now and to see this come to fruition shows the dedication and determination we have in the CSR arena to get to where we are today.  It’s imperative to us to operate in this way and we know that the investment in R&D has been worth every penny to be able to now offer this range to our customers – we know it will tick the green credential boxes for them too and I am extremely proud of that.”

As part of its broader guarantee to CSR, A. Perry has worked closely with packaging development consultant, Matthew Addington of Mad Packaging to ensure packaging development across all product lines is delivered with minimal environmental impact.  The collaboration means that the new eco packaging range will continue to evolve, with pre-pack bags switching to an eco-alternative, the use of non-laminated backing card and plastic ties being replaced by metal ties.

Steve added: “We have a deep focus on quality, performance and environmental responsibility.  We are continuously looking at ways to minimise the impact of our activities on the environment and this eco initiative launch just marks the start of very exciting times ahead for us.

The commitment to the eco-friendly packaging was made as part of our string of new environmental pledges and we are incredibly proud of our in-house marketing team for coming up with designs that are not only practical for retailers and attractive to customers, but also sets a benchmark for how things need to change for the industry in the future.”
