Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recommended spacing of the intermediate posts?

Post spacing depends on ground conditions, livestock pressure, fence height, wire type and wind exposure, but as a guide and based on typical installation under normal conditions we suggest:
Mild-steel netting 2.5 m – 3.0 m 
High-tensile netting 3.5 m – 4.5 m. 
Please Note* Installers should reduce spacing where required, including:
• Sloping or uneven ground 
• High wind exposure 
• Soft or sandy soils 
• High livestock pressure

Is a Straining Post required at every change in direction of the fence run? 

It is recommended that a straining post is required at every change in direction of the fence run. However for very slight changes in direction, a straining post may not be required depending on tension and ground conditions.

Is the system available under the Grant scheme in England?

Yes, as an all-metal fencing system, QuickClip is fully compliant with FG1/FG2/FG9 specifications 

How to apply:
1. Speak to the local Rural Payments Agency (RPA) or Natural England representative. 
2. Apply under the Countryside Stewardship scheme (FG1 or FG2). 
3. Include QuickClip fencing in your application. 

What is the thickness of the Straining Post?

QuickClip straining posts are manufactured from heavy-duty 6mm galvanised steel, designed to withstand high tension and long-term use in agricultural environments.

How far from the ground do the Straining Posts stand?

The main Straining Post is installed approximately 800mm into the ground, leaving the post standing 1600mm above ground.

How far from the ground do the intermediate posts stand?

The main Straining Post is installed approximately 700mm into the ground, leaving the post standing 1100mm above ground.

Is the system suitable for Barbed Wire?

Yes. QuickClip is suitable for use with barbed wire, either as a standalone fence or as a topping wire above netting.

Is the system suitable for Electric Wire?

Yes. The Intermediate Posts include various holes specifically for electric wire insulators.

Can I use tractor to knock intermediates into ground?

Yes, a tractor-mounted post driver can be used. However, one of the advantages of the QuickClip system is that intermediate posts can easily be driven by hand, removing the need for tractors or heavy machinery.

What is the best tool to knock intermediates into the ground?

A hand-held mechanical post driver is the most efficient tool for installing QuickClip intermediate posts. A manual post driver is also typically sufficient

What is the best tool to knock the Strainer Posts into the ground?

A hand-held mechanical post driver is typically sufficient for driving Strainer Posts into the ground, however  a tractor-mounted post driver may be preferred depending on the ground type, accessibility and job size.

Do I need to concrete the Strainer Posts into the ground?

Strainer posts do not require concreting when installed correctly.
In very soft, wet or unstable ground, concreting may be considered at the installer’s discretion.

Can the intermediated be removed once in the ground?

Intermediate posts are designed for permanent installation, however with appropriate tools the can be removed and repositioned if required, for example during fence realignment or replacement.
