More Information on Architectural Ironmongery
Introduction
Perry's Architectural Ironmongery collection brings together the full range of hinges, door furniture and fittings you need for interior and exterior doors, cabinets, and commercial projects. As the UK's largest independent ironmongery manufacturer, Perry produces butt hinges, parliament hinges, sprung hinges, backflap hinges, flush hinges and rising butt hinges across a wide range of sizes, materials and finishes — including brass, chrome, zinc plated, and our signature Forge black ironwork range.
Whether you're fitting out a new-build, refurbishing a period property, or supplying a construction project, Perry's architectural ironmongery offers the breadth and quality that trade professionals demand. All products are manufactured to meet relevant British Standards, with CE-marked fire door hinges available through our Perry Shield sub-brand.
What's in the Range
Butt hinges from 25mm to 150mm in brass, steel, stainless steel and zinc plated finishes. Parliament hinges for wide-opening doors on deep frames. Sprung hinges (single and double action) for self-closing doors in commercial and residential settings. Backflap hinges for counter flaps, bureau lids and cabinet doors. Flush hinges for lightweight doors and cabinets. Rising butt hinges for doors that need to clear carpet or
uneven floors. The Forge collection of black ironmongery — traditional hand-forged style hinges, latches and door furniture in a matt black finish.
Why Choose Perry
Perry has been manufacturing architectural ironmongery in the West Midlands since 1925. We are one of very few UK-based manufacturers still producing hinges and door furniture domestically, giving trade customers shorter lead times, consistent stock availability, and the confidence of buying British-made products backed by nearly a century of expertise.

FAQ's
Q: What is architectural ironmongery?
A: Architectural ironmongery covers all the metal fittings used in buildings — door hinges, handles, locks, latches, bolts, closers and associated hardware. Perry manufactures a comprehensive range for both residential and commercial applications.
Q: What size butt hinge do I need?
A: As a general rule: 75mm (3") for lightweight internal doors, 100mm (4") for standard internal doors, and 100–150mm for heavy or external doors. Heavier doors and fire doors may require three hinges rather than two. Perry offers butt hinges from 25mm up to 150mm.
Q: What is the difference between a butt hinge and a parliament hinge?
A: A butt hinge sits between the door and frame, while a parliament hinge has extended leaves that project from the frame, allowing the door to open a full 180° and fold flat against the wall. Parliament hinges are ideal for doors on deep reveals or window shutters.
Q: Are Perry hinges suitable for fire doors?
A: Yes — Perry Shield is our dedicated fire door hardware brand. Perry Shield hinges are CE marked and tested to BS EN 1935, suitable for use on FD30 and FD60 fire doors. Always check the specific product's fire rating before installation.
