The Perry Specification

Engineered for working farms.

Every Perry Fieldgate is built to the same specification across the range: precision laser-cut steel, heavy-gauge box-section construction, deep galvanising, fully welded joints, and a complete fixing kit included as standard. Five engineering principles that separate a gate that works from a gate that lasts.

01 — ENGINEERING PRINCIPLE

Precision Laser Cut

Every tube in a Perry Fieldgate is cut using computer-controlled laser technology, not manual sawing or shearing. Laser cutting produces exact lengths, square ends, and clean profiles that weld flush without adjustment. The result is a frame that is consistent across every gate in the range, and hangs true first time.

  • Computer-controlled cutting
  • Exact tolerances
  • Consistent across all sizes
02 — ENGINEERING PRINCIPLE

Heavy-Gauge Steel

Perry Fieldgates are manufactured from heavy-gauge box-section steel throughout, not the lighter round tube used in standard agricultural gates. Box section gives the frame greater structural rigidity and resistance to impact and racking — important qualities in a gate that will be pushed, leaned on, and driven into by livestock and machinery for decades.

  • Box-section construction
  • Greater structural rigidity
  • Impact resistant

100 Micron Hot-Dip Galvanising

Hot-dip galvanising fully submerges the completed gate in molten zinc, creating a metallurgically bonded coating across every surface — inside the hollow sections as well as outside. Perry Fieldgates carry a minimum 100 micron coating, which is industrial-grade specification and significantly thicker than standard agricultural gate coatings. It provides long-term corrosion protection in exposed outdoor conditions.

  • Minimum 100µ coating
  • Full immersion process
  • Inside and outside protection

Fully Welded Construction

Every joint in a Perry Fieldgate is fully welded, not bolted or crimped. Welded construction creates a continuous rigid structure with no mechanical joints that can loosen, corrode, or fail under repeated stress. Combined with laser-cut profiles that fit flush before welding, the result is a gate that holds its shape and its strength throughout its service life.

  • All joints fully welded
  • No mechanical fixings to loosen
  • Continuous rigid structure

Complete Fixing Kit Included

Every Perry Fieldgate is supplied with a galvanised spring bolt and a pair of adjustable gate eyes as standard. The gate eyes allow the hanging height and alignment to be set and adjusted during installation and fine-tuned afterwards. Supplying a matched, galvanised fixing kit as standard removes the guesswork from installation and ensures the gate, hinges, and latch are all specified to work together.

  • Galvanised spring bolt included
  • Adjustable gate eyes included
  • Ready to install out of the box
Perry Fieldgate Range

Materials and Finish

What makes the difference.

The Perry Fieldgate specification is built around four material and manufacturing choices that each add measurable performance over a standard agricultural gate. Together they produce a gate that is heavier, more rigid, better protected against corrosion, and ready to install without additional parts.

Laser-Cut Steel Tube

Computer-controlled laser cutting produces exact tube lengths and square, clean-profiled ends that weld flush without manual adjustment. Every gate in the range is cut to the same tolerances, so the finished frame hangs true and consistent across all ten sizes.

Box Section Frame

Heavy-gauge rectangular box section is used throughout the frame, not the lighter round tube found in standard agricultural gates. Box section provides greater structural rigidity and resistance to racking and impact, making it better suited to wide gates and heavy-use applications.

100 Micron Hot-Dip Galvanising

Full immersion in molten zinc creates a metallurgically bonded coating across all surfaces — including the inside of the hollow sections. The minimum 100 micron specification is industrial-grade, providing long-term corrosion protection that outlasts painted or surface-coated finishes in outdoor agricultural conditions.

Fully Welded Joints

All frame joints are fully welded, creating a continuous rigid structure with no mechanical fixings to loosen, corrode, or fail over time. The clean laser-cut tube profiles allow flush welds at every joint, ensuring structural integrity is maintained throughout the gate's service life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Specifying a field gate.

What sizes do Perry field gates come in?

Perry field gates are available in ten sizes: 3ft, 4ft, 5ft, 6ft, 8ft, 10ft, 12ft, 14ft, 15ft and 16ft. The range covers everything from pedestrian access points through to wide machinery and herd movement gateways. The 10ft is the most commonly specified size for standard farm gateways.

What is precision laser cutting and why does it matter for a field gate?

Precision laser cutting uses a computer-controlled focused laser to cut steel tube to exact dimensions and tolerances. For a field gate it means consistent length, square ends, and clean profiles for welding, giving a frame that hangs true and a finish quality that is consistent across the production run, not dependent on individual operator skill.

What is hot-dip galvanising and why does it matter?

Hot-dip galvanising fully submerges the gate in molten zinc, creating a metallurgically bonded protective coating across every surface, inside and out. Perry field gates carry a minimum 100 micron coating, which is industrial-grade and provides long-term corrosion protection in outdoor agricultural use, far outlasting painted or surface-coated finishes.

Are fixings included with Perry field gates?

Yes. Every Perry Fieldgate is supplied with a galvanised spring bolt and a pair of adjustable gate eyes as standard, so the gate is ready to install out of the box.

Do I need hanging and receiving posts?

Yes. Field gates require a hanging post that the gate eyes attach to, and a receiving post that the bolt latches into. Perry supplies matching galvanised hanging and receiving posts designed to pair directly with the Fieldgate range.

Are Perry field gates suitable for livestock?

Yes. The Perry Fieldgate is designed for use with cattle, horses, sheep, and other livestock. The heavy-gauge box section construction is built to handle the impact and sustained pressure that working livestock environments put on a gate.

Where can I buy Perry field gates?

Perry Agricultural products are available through agricultural and rural merchants across the UK, as well as directly online through perrytrade.co.uk.

How long will a galvanised field gate last?

Service life depends on installation quality, environment, and use, but a 100-micron hot-dip galvanised gate is engineered for decades of permanent outdoor use in UK agricultural conditions when properly installed and maintained.

What is the difference between a box gate and a tubular gate?

Box gates use a rectangular box-section frame, which gives greater structural rigidity than the round tube used throughout a standard tubular gate. Box section is better suited to wider gates and to heavy-use applications such as livestock containment or vehicle access.

Can the gate eyes be adjusted after installation?

Yes. The Perry Fieldgate fixing kit includes adjustable gate eyes that allow the gate height and alignment to be fine-tuned during and after installation.
